Shelby Canopy: Our Shared Connection is a public art project that aims to raise awareness of our community's natural resources, foster connections between Shelby County residents and our green spaces, and advance regional understanding of the importance of trees. This project includes the presentation of two temporary artworks: The Blue Trees Environmental Art Installation by international artist Konstantin Dimopoulos and Tree Tones by local artist duo Belleau + Churchill.

Shelby Canopy: Our Shared Connection is produced by the Germantown Public Art Program and supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and the City of Germantown. Project partners include The Wolf River Conservancy and the Germantown Parks and Recreation Department.

  • You, and the trees of Shelby County

  • This is a free, immersive public art project. That means you get to walk through on your own, at your own pace, as many times as you want, to experience sights and sounds that will immerse you into our natural environment.

  • You can visit from sunrise to sunset, seven days a week from November 19 to April 19 2024.

  • The installation is located along the Germantown Greenway near the Memphis and Germantown border and is only viewable from the trail.

The closest parking lots are located at the intersection of Kirby Parkway and Humphreys Boulevard and the Germantown Greenway West Parking lot along Wolf River Boulevard between Riverdale Road and Kirby Parkway.

    • From the Kirby Pkwy trailhead walk East (away from the river) till you see project signage.  It will take roughly 10-15 minutes to walk to the site.

    • From the Germantown Greenway West Parking lot walk West (towards the river) till you see project signage. It will take roughly 5-7 minutes to walk to the site.

  • By inviting these acclaimed artists to create these immersive experiences, we’re not just creating something beautiful. We’re raising awareness of our natural resources, the importance of our trees, and helping people feel more connected to our open spaces. We are also actively supporting the arts and showing how they can make a positive difference in our community.
