Morning Light on the Greenway was designed to reflect the soft magic of an early morning along the trail. The mural combines the earthy colors of the greenway trails with a bright, punchy palette of pink, orange and red.
While the composition includes recognizable elements like water oaks, shagbark hickory branches and sand post oak, the focus is the summer tanager perched against bright sun rays. The transition from deep greens to sunny yellows, oranges and pinks, creates the feel of a new day as it unfolds. It serves as a colorful reminder of the natural beauty that is available for us to enjoy on a daily basis.

Based in West Tennessee, Samantha Wood specializes in both public art and studio paintings that emphasize color, nature, and connection. Since launching her full-time art practice in 2021, she has developed a signature style characterized by bold botanical motifs and "punchy" vibrant palettes. Her work aims to bridge the gap between abstract design elements and recognizable subjects, making contemporary art feel accessible to a broad audience.
Samantha’s portfolio includes diverse public works, ranging from a 1,200-square-foot mural in downtown Jackson to site-specific exterior installations at the Ned McWherter Cultural Arts Center and the Wolf River Greenway in Germantown. In addition to her larger scale public projects, she collaborates with local businesses to create custom interior murals that reflect their unique community presence. Whether working with national brands like Starbucks or local neighborhood spots, Samantha remains dedicated to creating artwork that transforms public spaces into moments of shared inspiration and beauty.
